Crown Trends 2010 is a beautiful guide to the colours, textures and finishes that Crown Paints predict will be inspirational for the year ahead. Colour is at the heart of everything we do, and after the success of last year’s inaugural Crown Trends Look Book, we have once again pooled a collective of exciting, innovative minds to form the new Crown Trends Panel.
The panel are a group of eclectic and inspiring individuals – some from within the paint and interiors industry, others from creative walks of life, but all bound by a passion for colour – to help inform and shape the trends and colour palettes.
Using research, observation, experience and a splash of intuition, the Crown Trends Panel have proposed themes that they believe will be important to colour, interior design and decoration for 2010. Together they have created six distinct colour collections of Crown Paint that capture the spirit of each of trend.
We hope they inspire you, as they have inspired us...
Terra
This palette is warm, bold and graphic. The Terra trend is the natural world at one with the man made; it is colour blocking inspired by natural baked and cracked earth or the distinctive block colours of a Bauhaus painting. Consider bold feature walls, stripes or blocks of colour using dusky hues like Crown’s Moulin Rouge™, City Life or Celebrity®. Wrap colours around corners and across ceilings, woodwork & radiators.
New Mexico
New Mexico is dry and hot like the desert sands, relying on the power of the dazzling midday sun to create stunning colour gradients and bright shimmering reflections. The palette ranges from burnt oranges and sun-drenched yellows, to dusty taupes, greying whites and a spectrum of watery, to intense midnight blues. Use a palette of fresh blues & creams from room to room, with an injection of accent colours such as Satin Jade or Prairie Gold.
St Germain
Nostalgic in its reverence of timeless elegance, St Germain is also entirely current; reflecting the desire to invest in the home life and in things that are built to last. It is a romantic vision, inspired by a stylish artisan living in Paris. The palette is made more beautiful by the power of light and reflections from glass. Use grey or black on walls, textiles in classic patterns such as herringbone, hounds tooth or crisp stripes would compliment this trend perfectly.
Paperback
This trend evokes a sense of familiarity and comfort. It is inspired by a book shelf of faded Penguin Classics, and a novel that has been read and re-read by generations of the same family. Inspired by SS10 catwalk collections, this palette is a twist on soft pastel colours, made new with accents of olive green and intense yellow. Layer tones of soft yellow, worn pink and rich creams on walls. This palette is ideal for sun-dappled bedrooms and living rooms.
Plush
Plush encapsulates grown up glamour and utilises layered textures to make the rich colours feel more intense. Imagine richly piled velvet and faux furs adorning a fabled beauty, her alabaster skin starkly beautiful against the deep jewel hues that envelop her. For an indulgent bedroom, mix plum tones such as Eveningwear®, with rich chocolate hues like Mocha, then add a twinkle with metallic accessories.
Simple Beauty
There is a new beauty. Here all unnecessary distractions are removed so that the focus is on what truly matters. This trend reflects a more moderated and considered approach to consumption and harks back to traditional crafts, skills and materials. Natural shades of soft beige interact with ethereal rays of refracted green and purple light. The resounding effect is to create a feeling of calm and tranquillity.
